[Star Daily News - Reporter Gyujun Hwang] Sungjae Lim, sponsored by Shinhan Korea (CEO Hancheol Kim), clinched the runner-up position in the PGA Tour Championship, marking the first time a Korean achieved such a feat under the sponsorship of the flagship brand "JDX."
On the 29th, at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, Sungjae Lim recorded a final score of 20 under par with 264 strokes, reducing his score by four strokes in the final 4 rounds, with seven birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey. He finished one stroke behind the champion Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland, 21 under par, 263 strokes), tying for second place with Scottie Scheffler (USA).
The Tour Championship is a tournament featuring only the top 30 players, and Sungjae Lim surpassed his own record from 2007, exceeding Choi Kyung-ju's fifth place to achieve the highest-ever result by a Korean player. McIlroy won his third FedEx Cup, earning a winner's bonus of $18 million, approximately 241 billion Korean won, while Sungjae Lim and Scheffler, tied for second place, received prize money of approximately 7.7 billion Korean won each.
Sungjae Lim expressed his satisfaction, stating, "I was able to maintain steady play, scoring 4 under par or better in every round. I wish I could play like this every day." He added, "I didn't expect to achieve such a good result in the playoffs. I thought it would be good to finish within the top 5 this week, so I'm very happy to finish in second place."
Shinhan Korea CEO Hancheol Kim commented, "Sungjae Lim has been with JDX for five years since the Korn Ferry Tour, the PGA Tour's second tier. It's very gratifying to see him grow into a representative player who frequently delivers good news to Korea. I hope JDX can continue to support Sungjae Lim to achieve even better results in the future."
